A busy Maser 1 April 2010

2010 has been another productive year for Maser to date. From his challenging work with the likes of Damien Dempsey to his public commissioned pieces, Maser has been churning out a constant flow of new material. To be honest, if we were to do a post on every project Maser took on, this could become a glorified fan-site.

Recently Maser worked with Livestrong, the Lance Armstrong Foundation project to unite people to fight cancer believing that unity is strength, knowledge is power and attitude is everything. The finished piece represents Unity and people coming together (the handshake), the Livestrong logo breaking the wall of ignorance down and some positive and negative symbols on each side. For more photos from the busy Dublin based artist visit Maser on Flickr.

The final Twelve Doors instalation of 2009 ‘Love Yourself Today’ came from Dubliners, Maser and Damien Dempsey and is described as ‘for the people of Dublin, about Dublin, in Dublin.’

‘The majority of street art only addresses the ‘headline issues’, depicting the negative aspects about our society and governments. I want to address some of these issues but communicate them in a positive manner.’ This piece is the 2nd of 24 that will be painted in Dublin over the next few months. All pieces will be on-line in the New Year on Damien Dempsey’s site. The visual inspiration for this project comes from the old hand painted sign writing in Dublin City, the sort you can still see on sides of pubs, chemists, hardware stores etc.

Maser and Bodytonic are proud to present the work of Dundalk-based graffiti artists Kube and Omin. Painting commercially and as a passionate hobby, Kube and Omin have been painting the countries walls for the past 13 years, bringing graffiti art to their hometown and nationwide, as well as being established on the international scene.

Using a wide range of media, including spray painted canvas, acrylic and oil paintings and photographic pieces to fully showcase the vibrancy, movement and technical skill that comes with this very new and rapidly moving art form.

Kube
and Omin have painted for a vast array of major companies, brands, festivals and arts organisations. Working commercially doing commissions and brand promotion the pair have been submitting their artwork to internationally circulated magazines for the past 10 years, gaining them work overseas aswell as representing the Irish Graffiti art scene on an worldwide platform.

Graffiti art by its very nature is something that the public see and admire but yet mystery surrounds the rhyme and reason to why and how it is done. Since its beginings in the 70’s, Graffiti art has been a voice for young artists to display their talents on a public stage without reward, whilst risking prosecution in some cases to express themselves.

Using such a wide range of mediums – Kube and Omin hope to visually demonstrate the essence of Graffiti art through their own styles and skills. From sketches used on past murals, to photographs of walls, to graffiti art on canvas – all facets of the artform will be displayed and will give a visual narrative to their 13 years of non-stop graffiti art exploits.

This is the first show of its kind to be held in Twisted Pepper and promises to be one of most animated and interesting uses of the space to date. Kube and Omin will be displaying original pieces for this show in addition to painting some of the gallery walls and creating a more unique atmosphere to the space.

This show promises to be fresh on every surface.

Maser loves U

Irishstreetart.com has been a fan of Maser‘s work for the past few years from his pieces at Lecky Picky to his regular installments at the Bernard Shaw. Below is an exclusive collection of photos that Maser tell’s us ‘hasn’t hit the net’ before. For more updates on his latest projects blog here »

Maser first started painting graffiti in Ireland in 1995 and very quickly created quite an impression on the established scene with his innovative letter styles, characters and photo realism.

Its fair to see he is the most well rounded graffiti artist at work in ireland today with a capacity to do everything from quickly executed simple pieces to full colour work , characters and full scale cooperative projects with themed backgrounds and concepts. Since 1995 he’s treated the world as his canvas leaving behind some of his artwork in London, Germany, Copenhagen, Holland, Belgium, Spain and Sweden as well as making a visit to New York the birth place of his beloved artform. Maser has also painted extensively throughout Ireland.

In between he studied fine art and then qualified with a distinction in Design Communication. Upon graduation Maser was awarded Membership of the International Society of Typographic Designers. Using what he learned in college and adapting it to meet his needs has given Maser‘s work a unique edge fusing graffiti and grapic design.

Maser is a member of the TDA Klann and the Foes Crew. The TDA Klann, formed in 1991 are Ireland’s premier graffiti crew. Their focus on creating unique writing styles has earned them international acclaim and respect. Since 1993, they’ve been running Ireland’s first and only annual graffiti festival and front a movement for emerging artists encouraging and assisiting up and coming artists and promoting graffiti in a positive light.

Maser endeavours to highlight the positive aspects of graffiti, how it can enrich the cityscape and provide an outlet for young artists. His style is reflective of this, being both uplifting and socially conscious and harmonious with the surfaces he uses. His work carries a message , from the simple Maser loves you to the eye love my city which is maser proclaiming to everyone his love for his city, his environment and the people that live there.

Maser is more than a graffiti artist working in Dublin, his work reflects the feeling and emotions of the city and he uses the streets to tell his story, your story…

He is currently working on a book documenting the relationship between Graffiti and social groups in Dublin City.
