The final Twelve Doors instalation of 2009 ‘Love Yourself Today’ came from Dubliners, Maser and Damien Dempsey and is described as ‘for the people of Dublin, about Dublin, in Dublin.’

‘The majority of street art only addresses the ‘headline issues’, depicting the negative aspects about our society and governments. I want to address some of these issues but communicate them in a positive manner.’ This piece is the 2nd of 24 that will be painted in Dublin over the next few months. All pieces will be on-line in the New Year on Damien Dempsey’s site. The visual inspiration for this project comes from the old hand painted sign writing in Dublin City, the sort you can still see on sides of pubs, chemists, hardware stores etc.

On “Progress” ADW told twlevedoors.com, ‘My initial idea was to turn the door into something that looked out of place in the City Centre. Our Minister for Health, Mary Harney TD dressed in peasant garb looking very bored reflecting our current economic climate. ‘Progress’ written in the cobweb (a favoured political word) is to contrast the whole theme.’

From his initial exploits as part of the TNT crew to his more recent role as a street art photographer, Kieran Hynes has been a part of the Cork graffiti scene since the early 90′s.

Hynes told irishstreetart.com that back in the day ‘Cork had a big scene going on but without proper outlets and cop pressure the scene dried up with most crews at the time disbanding’.

However, Hynes kept up his interest, and in the past five years he has documented the Cork graffiti scene’s return to grace. Hynes has become familiar with most of Ireland‘s top writers and his work is driven by his own writer instinct and passion for finding ‘street art, be it tags, stencils or simply pieces off the beaten track’.

‘Alll respect to the artists for their work and ideas, for trying to brighten up this dull concrete jungle we all live in!’

Check out Kieran Hynes on flickr where there is over 4000 photo’s of local street art from Cork, Dublin, Galway, Limerick and international work from Spain and Australia.

Bluetooth Fairy

The Dublin based Artivist, Will St. Ledger, in his blog, tells us that he is in the process of finalising dates for his latest show ‘Bluetooth Fairy’. Once again St. Ledger pushs the boundries with this virtual exhibition ‘where the audience will receive my new work via Bluetooth to their mobile phones and then Bluetooth it to printers.’ The art on show will remain secret until the night of launch but if his portfolio to date is anything to go by this event should not be missed!

The Pig Payback - Electric Picnic2009 - ADW

Fans of Street Art in the emerald isle will no doubt be familiar with ADW, the latest talent to emerge from the east coast. ADW told IrishStreetArt.com a little about his journey to date.

ADW spent 5 years studying classical animation and computer animation in Ballyfermot College. Three years were then spent in England for a computer games company before moving back to Ireland to work at doing 3D modelling.

His love for street art really started to take hold when he would pass by the hoardings at Dublin’s Bernard Shaw pub and could see the growth in the Irish Scene.

At this stage he started to experiment with stencilling and producing images. The artist told us how these images “would express the way I feel and I longed for the opportunity to devote more of my own time to my own art. The dream came true and my mind finally made up for me when the economy went tits up and found myself out of a job and creating art full time. Since then I haven’t looked back.”

In the last year or so ADW has hooked up with some really helpful and friendly people among the Irish street and art scene. But us he is currently trying to get his own show together in the coming year. Watch this space! Click here to visit ADW’s site
