Last week saw the second live graffiti art event, Whitewash, held in Gallery One of the Millennium Court Arts Centre, Portadown, Co Armagh. Artists included DERMIN8R, VERZ, FILTH, Hawkie, Dre Botero and MyTarpit as well as a public mash wall for everyone to get involved on a huge collaboration piece. The day was well recieved with an excellent turn out and music and beer flowing. The six artists worked across the entire evening showcasing what they do and promoting street art in a public gallery.

Whitewash is currently scheduled to take place twice a year (indoor in winter and possibly outdoor in summer). Whitewash III is hopefully going to happen in July or August 2011 and the organisers are on the look out for talented artists to showcase Irish creativity. To get involved email dmc@manchini.co.uk or visit WhiteWash on facebook

A Visual Feast – Book Launch 10 November 2010

A Visual Feast; Irish Street Art is a photographic collection of Ireland’s stencils, paste-ups, installations, murals and portraits and features artist profiles …and comments throughout.

Jonathan Lynn of ANewSpace said “Its easy to make a book about international street art. TRESPASS: A History Of Uncommissioned Public Art by Wooster Collective is a great book but the scene in the US seems desperate to be gentrified and accepted. I feel that book is aimed at pushing street art away from its core of people just doing or making something and into the world of curators. It will allow the work of Jeffrey Deitch previously of Deitch Projects in New York and currently the director of the LA Museum of Contempory Art to promote large scale street art shows.

But is that what the world needs. Already guys with spray cans can be found at every music festival and church fair (soon). As soon as a book or gallery show happens street art seems to haved moved and changed.

Ideally I hope the A Visual Feast book will have more in common with Stencil Graffiti by Tristan Manco. One of the first books on stencils that seemed to sow the seeds for so many artists. (I always thank Jenny Fox for giving it to me.) Only time will tell.”

The Book, by Rua Meegan & Lauren Teeling, will be in stores mid November 2010. A Visual Feast‘s book launch will take place Thursday Nov 18th from 7pm in The Bernard Shaw in Dublin.

There will be drinks promotions and DJ’s as well as live painting by some of Ireland’s best street artists including ADW, Will St Leger, Fink, Xpir, Asbestos, Littleman and Solus. All Welcome!!

‘They Are Us’ is an exhibition of works by Maser and Damien Dempsey. It is a tribute to Dublin: northside and southside, the visible and the secret, the good and the bad. The aim of the project is to raise money for the homeless of Dublin.

A number of limited edition screen prints of works from ‘They Are Us’ will be available in our online shop in the near future. All proceeds from the project will be donated to the Simon Community.

IrishStreetArt.com are delighted to report, Electric Picnic 2010 was one of the better festivals on these shores in recent years. Brian Coldrick, James Kirwan, Risto, Eoin Holland, Brazil’s Askim, the Nom Nom Collective’s Lamps and Jine were the artists on this year’s line-up. The main focal point for the aerosol action was the land locked pleasure cruser but panels from previous Secret Wars graffiti battles were also on show.

Dublin are through to the Quarter Finals of the first ever Secret Wars Euro League! The biggest Secret Wars Euro League battle ever to take place on these shores will commence this Saturday at 8pm. Due to the the noise levels generated from the previous crazy atmostphere this bout will take place in Mill Street Studios, Dublin. ‘Its been a long road with wins and losses, but now its make or break time if we want to advance to the semi! Up next are our old rivals and original hard hitters, Team London‘.

Dublin are 2:1 down from the away leg so they’ll need all the support they need for this potentially historic occasion. IrishStreetArt.com were informed that this event is a ‘BYOB’ Battle! There will be no bar, but there is an off-licence only two minutes round the corner, so make sure you come fully stocked!
