The final Twelve Doors instalation of 2009 ‘Love Yourself Today’ came from Dubliners, Maser and Damien Dempsey and is described as ‘for the people of Dublin, about Dublin, in Dublin.’

‘The majority of street art only addresses the ‘headline issues’, depicting the negative aspects about our society and governments. I want to address some of these issues but communicate them in a positive manner.’ This piece is the 2nd of 24 that will be painted in Dublin over the next few months. All pieces will be on-line in the New Year on Damien Dempsey’s site. The visual inspiration for this project comes from the old hand painted sign writing in Dublin City, the sort you can still see on sides of pubs, chemists, hardware stores etc.

This timelapse video shows Irish street Artists, Pat and Fis, creating murals of two homeless people in Guinardo, Barcelona. Speaking of their inspirational work, they told IrishStreetArt.com “We decided to make them colorful to show how rich the homeless are at heart as we met so many homeless while out and about, and their outlook seemed to remain positive and genuine regardless of their situation”. Beautiful street art pieces, great footage.

On “Progress” ADW told twlevedoors.com, ‘My initial idea was to turn the door into something that looked out of place in the City Centre. Our Minister for Health, Mary Harney TD dressed in peasant garb looking very bored reflecting our current economic climate. ‘Progress’ written in the cobweb (a favoured political word) is to contrast the whole theme.’

From his initial exploits as part of the TNT crew to his more recent role as a street art photographer, Kieran Hynes has been a part of the Cork graffiti scene since the early 90’s.

Hynes told irishstreetart.com that back in the day ‘Cork had a big scene going on but without proper outlets and cop pressure the scene dried up with most crews at the time disbanding’.

However, Hynes kept up his interest, and in the past five years he has documented the Cork graffiti scene’s return to grace. Hynes has become familiar with most of Ireland’s top writers and his work is driven by his own writer instinct and passion for finding ’street art, be it tags, stencils or simply pieces off the beaten track’.

‘Alll respect to the artists for their work and ideas, for trying to brighten up this dull concrete jungle we all live in!’

Check out Kieran Hynes on flickr where there is over 4000 photo’s of local street art from Cork, Dublin, Galway, Limerick and international work from Spain and Australia.

Earth-Devided5

The Earth Divided movement that was brought to the attention of IrishStreetArt.com by Liam Moore. The multidisciplinary project aims to highlight the rising global concern of the planet. It developed from a single artistic expression into various forms of visual communication all with an emphasis on environmentalism.

Earth Devided Stencils

Earth Divided began as a micro-project in early 2009, when Liam Moore was creating pieces of graphic-design/art. The pieces reflected current events in the media and blogosphere. Since then, two of the original pieces grew into a much bigger picture, project and idea. Moore asked “was it possible in Belfast to promote positive awareness of environmentalism through graphic design?”. To this a series of five logos (Power, Food, Tree, Water, Animals) were created to represent each of the five areas of Earth Divided. These logos were transformed into stencils for graffiti and canvas printing use. Earth Divided.com gives you the opportunity to create a simple pixel style stencil and begin your very own movement. playhouse

From September 24th – October 11th 2009, Members of the public are invited to create animations with sound and music, via the Playhouse website, and broadcast them across the city’s skyline.

The Playhouse team was pulled together through connections made at the Trinity Science Gallery.
